Raiff Celebrates Mariah's 20 Years in Music: 2010

From her first vision of love to her latest memoirs, Mariah Carey has had a phenomenal career. It is hard to believe that it has been twenty years since she first soared on to the music scene. In that time, we've experienced her metamorphosis from a teenage girl with barely a penny to her name cutting demos in a woodshop studio to a multi-platinum selling singer, songwriter, producer, actress, businesswoman and humanitarian.

Let's take a look at just some of Mariah's many records over the course of her unparalleled career:

• Mariah has sold over 175 million albums, records, and singles worldwide. • Mariah had four consecutive #1 singles from a debut album, unprecedented for a female artist. • Mariah's first five singles went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the only artist in Billboard history to achieve this feat. • Mariah's first ten singles went to #1 on the CHR/Pop chart (now known as the Mainstream Top 40 or Pop 100 Airplay chart), making her the only artist in music history to achieve this feat. • Mariah was the first female artist to have a single debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the only artist in Billboard history to have three singles debut at #1. • Mariah has the longest running #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 ("One Sweet Day") in Billboard history. • Mariah has 18 #1s on the Billboard Hot 100, more than any active artist in Billboard history. • Mariah has 14 #1s on the single sales and digital single sales chart, more than any active artist in Billboard history. • Mariah had the longest running #1 single in both the 1990s and 2000s, making her the only artist in Billboard history to achieve this feat. • Mariah is the top selling female artist in the US in the Soundscan era (since 1991) • Mariah has the best selling album by a non-Japanese artist of all time in Japan with #1's and is by far the top selling non-Japanese female artist of all time in the country. • Mariah has more singles certified at least platinum than any other female artist in music history.

Mariah grew up knowing what it's like not to have much. Throughout the course of her career, she has devoted a great deal of time and money to philanthropic causes. She has maintained a relationship with the Fresh Air Fund, VH1's Save The Music Foundation, UNICEF and Operation Smile, among other charities. Mariah has truly made a difference in the lives of millions of people worldwide; not just with her music, but with her kind heart.

This year has been a typically busy year for Mariah. Her Angels Advocate Tour took her around the US, with a generous selection of the hits that have helped her become one of the most successful recording artists of all time. Her role in Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire brought her to the Screen Actors Guild and the Academy Awards.

Currently, Mariah is gearing up for the release of her fourth Elizabeth Arden fragrance, "Lollipop Bling," as well as writing and recording for her next album. She has been in the studio with Jermaine Dupri, Randy Jackson, Bryan-Michael Cox, Johnta Austin and Big Jim Wright, working on a "very lush" new Christmas album! It is also reported that she has been recording with a live band for the album.

After twenty years of topping charts and touching hearts, it looks like Mariah Carey has a lot more in store for us!
